Time of the Child

Didn't finish.  Just way too wordy.  Simply could not plow my way through it.  If I'm ever on a desert Island, I MIGHT look at this as a possibility. But, not likely.

A World without Summer

WOW!  what an incredible book. Tells the story of a volcano eruption and the worldwide effects it had for several years.  It is probably the worst eruption in the history of mankind, much bigger than Vesuvius was many years ago. It's a short narrative and very fascinating.  One of the most interesting things to come out of this weather phenom was the writing of the book Frankenstein, which is still being read today. What a story - the volcano, not Frankenstein!  I give it 4 stars.

The Art Thief

Holy Cow!  What a book!  Still leaves me speechless.  This is the true story of a man who stole art because of his obsession with the beauty of it.   However, he didn't steal it to resell it.  Rather he kept it in his bedroom at the top of the stairs in his mother's home.  It's a totally irrational thing he does.  Yet, even after getting caught, he continues to steal.   Not my favorite book of the year, but it was an interesting, fairly short read.
